The personalize skill: set your voice once, use it everywhere
TL;DR
The personalize skill interviews you about your name, your audience, your offer and your voice, then saves the answers to a file at ~/.claude/brand-profile.md. Every writing skill in the pack reads that file. You answer once, and you stop pasting your own background into every prompt.
Run this one first. The personalize skill asks you a handful of questions about who you are, who you're trying to reach, what you sell and how you like to sound, then saves your answers to a file at ~/.claude/brand-profile.md. A lot of the other free skills read that file before they write anything. That's how they come back sounding like you instead of like a stranger.
You know the tax it kills. You ask for an Instagram caption, it comes back generic, so you paste in three paragraphs about your niche and your customer. Next day you want a bio, so you paste the same three paragraphs again. Then a DM, and again. You end up retyping your own background every time you want one thing written.
This is the setup skill in our free skills repo, and the README tells you to run it before anything else. It takes about five minutes and you do it once.
The one-time brand setup. Run it before the writing skills.
Install the personalize skill
Three lines in your terminal. Grab the repo, make sure your skills folder exists, copy this one folder into it.
bashgit clone https://github.com/duncan-buildroom/freeskills.git
mkdir -p ~/.claude/skills
cp -r freeskills/personalize ~/.claude/skills/Restart Claude Code, or just open a new session. That's the whole install. No API keys, no config.
Run it the first time
Type /personalize. The skill checks whether you already have a profile. If you don't, it interviews you in five short rounds: you, your audience, your offer, your voice, and your proof and links. It asks one group per message so it reads like a conversation instead of a form, and short answers are fine. When it's finished it writes ~/.claude/brand-profile.md and tells you the path.
It won't invent anything about you. If you don't have a price or a result yet, say so and it records the blank honestly rather than making something up. A good first run ends with a file you can open, read, and recognize as yourself.
Answer the whole interview in one paste
If you already know your answers, skip the back and forth. Hand it everything up front and let it write the file.
/personalize
Here's everything in one go, so you don't need to interview me.
Name: [your name]
What I do: [one plain sentence]
Who I'm trying to reach: [their role or situation]
The main pain I help with: [the pain]
What I sell and roughly what it costs: [offer and price, or 'nothing yet']
Words or shapes I ban: [e.g. no em dashes, no jargon]
My tone in three words: [three words]
My links: [website, main handle, booking or checkout link]
My default call to action: [what you want people to do]
Write the profile and show me the path.Set it up when you don't have an offer yet
Most people running this are early. You don't need a price or a testimonial for the profile to be worth having. Say where you actually are and the skill leaves the gaps marked instead of filling them with fiction.
/personalize
I'm starting from scratch. I don't have an offer or any results yet. I do [what you do, or what you want to do] and I want to reach [who]. Fill in what you can from that, mark the offer and proof sections as not set yet, and tell me which two things to come back and fill in once I have real answers.Change one section without redoing the whole thing
Your price moves. Your audience narrows. You find a word you can't stand reading. Run the skill again and it only re-asks the part you want to change.
/personalize
My profile is already set up. I only want to update [the section, e.g. my offer and price]. Here's the new version: [the new details]. Leave every other section exactly as it is, then show me a short summary of what changed. The 60-second version
Here's what this skill does and why it's worth five minutes, short enough to say out loud.
- 1Hook: there's a brand new free Claude skill that takes you from retyping your whole background into every prompt to skills that already know your voice.
- 2Mechanism: you answer five short rounds of questions about your name, your audience, your offer, your voice and your links. It never invents anything, so a blank stays a blank. Then it writes all of it into one profile file, and the other writing skills read that file before they write a word.
- 3Transformation: the next time you ask for a caption or a bio, it comes back sounding like you on the first try. You stop explaining yourself to get one paragraph written, and the five minutes you spent tonight keeps paying every session after.
- 4Close: the profile is free, and it's one of 55 free skills. If you want the path your writing sits inside, not just the voice it comes out in, Claude Code Club is $9 a month. Link below.
Do this one tonight, before you install anything else. Five minutes now buys back the same three paragraphs of background every single time you ask for something written.
Common questions
Do I need to know how to code?
No. You paste three lines into the terminal to install the folder, then you answer questions in plain English. Claude writes the profile file itself and tells you where it saved it.
Is it really free?
Yes. The skill is a folder with a SKILL.md inside, public in the freeskills repo. No API keys, no account, nothing to configure after you copy it across.
What if I don't have an offer or any results yet?
Say that. The skill records blanks honestly instead of inventing revenue, follower counts or credentials, and the other skills then write lighter claims or leave them out entirely.
Where does the file live, and is it private?
It saves to ~/.claude/brand-profile.md on your own machine. It stays in your home folder on purpose, never inside a project or a repo, so it doesn't get pushed anywhere by accident.
How do I change it later?
Run /personalize again. It reads the existing profile, shows you a summary, and only re-asks the sections you want to update.
