TL;DR
These five prompts create a CLAUDE.md memory file with who you are, what you're building, and how you like to work — then prove it works and copy it to global memory so Claude remembers you everywhere. About 15 minutes; the interview in prompt 2 is the longest part.
Copy each prompt, fill in the [brackets], and paste them into Claude Code in order. By prompt 5, Claude can brief you back to yourself from the file alone — and remembers you in every folder, not just this one.
Create the memory file
Create a file in this folder called CLAUDE.md and write into it everything you should remember about me every time we talk: my name [name], what I do [what you do], who I serve [audience], what I'm building right now [current project], and how I like you to work with me [short answers / explain simply]. Do I need to know how to code?
No. Claude writes and saves the file itself. You answer questions about your business in plain English.
Where do I paste these?
Into Claude Code. CLAUDE.md is the file Claude Code reads automatically at the start of every session — that's the mechanism that makes the memory permanent.
How is this different from Claude's built-in memory?
This is a file you own: you can read it, edit it, and carry it between machines. Claude Code loads it automatically every session, and prompt 5 copies it to global memory so it works in every folder.
