10 Repos for a Top 1% Claude Code Setup (Skills, Specs, Plugins, Reviews)
TL;DR
Most people install Claude Code and use it like a chatbot. Top users give it a system. These 10 free GitHub repos do that. Three make Claude Code plan, test and verify before it ships (Superpowers, Addy Osmani's Agent Skills and cc-sdd). GitHub's Spec Kit makes Claude Code build exactly what you wrote in a spec. Two are reading lists that teach the pro habits (Claude Code Best Practice and Awesome Claude Code). Anthropic's official plugin directory and Claude Code Templates install vetted add-ons in seconds. OpenAI's Codex plugin gives you a second opinion review, and Claude DevTools shows exactly what Claude Code did in every session. Each section has the GitHub link, live star count and the install steps from the repo's own README.

The 10 repos for a top 1% Claude Code setup
Star counts below were pulled from GitHub on October 2, 2026, so they will be higher by the time you read this. The list covers four jobs: make Claude plan and test before it codes, build from a written spec, install vetted add-ons fast and see and review what Claude did. You don't need all 10. Pick one workflow framework, then add the tools around it.
1. Superpowers: Claude Code plans, tests and verifies before it ships
294,445 stars on October 2, 2026. MIT license.
What it does: a full software development method for your coding agent, built from skills that trigger on their own. Before writing code, Claude asks what you are really trying to do, shows you the design in short chunks, writes a step-by-step plan, then builds it with red/green test-driven development and a code review between tasks. The README says it is common for the agent to work on its own for a couple of hours without leaving the plan.
How to install it: Superpowers is in Anthropic's official plugin marketplace. Inside Claude Code, type:
prompt/plugin install superpowers@claude-plugins-officialOr use its own marketplace, which also has related plugins:
prompt/plugin marketplace add obra/superpowers-marketplace
/plugin install superpowers@superpowers-marketplace2. Spec Kit: write the spec first and Claude Code builds exactly that
139,856 stars on October 2, 2026. MIT license. Made by GitHub.
What it does: GitHub's open source toolkit for spec-driven development. You describe what you want and why, and it turns that into a specification, a technical plan and a task list, then guides Claude to build against them. It also ships bug-fixing and idea-assessment processes as add-on extensions.
How to install it: you need Python 3.11+ and uv (a Python tool installer). Then run this in your terminal. The README's example uses Copilot, and Spec Kit's integrations docs list `claude` as the key for Claude Code:
bashuv tool install specify-cli
specify init my-project --integration claude
cd my-projectOpen Claude Code in that folder and run the skills one at a time, reviewing each result before the next:
prompt/speckit-constitution Create principles focused on code quality, testing, and maintainability.
/speckit-specify Build a photo organizer with albums grouped by date and a tile preview of each album.
/speckit-plan Use Vite with vanilla JavaScript. Keep images local and store metadata in SQLite.
/speckit-tasks
/speckit-implement
/speckit-converge3. Agent Skills by Addy Osmani: production grade by default
100,522 stars on October 2, 2026. MIT license. From Addy Osmani.
What it does: 25 skills that package the workflows and quality gates senior engineers use, plus 9 slash commands that follow the build lifecycle: `/spec`, `/plan`, `/build`, `/test`, `/constraints`, `/review`, `/webperf`, `/code-simplify` and `/ship`. Skills also turn on by themselves, for example designing an API triggers the API design skill.
How to install it (Claude Code, recommended in the README): inside Claude Code, type:
prompt/plugin marketplace add addyosmani/agent-skills
/plugin install agent-skills@addy-agent-skillsOr install with the skills CLI from your terminal. Add `--list` to browse first:
bashnpx skills add addyosmani/agent-skills
npx skills add addyosmani/agent-skills --list4. Claude Code Best Practice: the pro playbook in one repo
67,012 stars on October 2, 2026. MIT license.
What it does: a reference repo that goes from vibe coding to agentic engineering. It covers subagents, commands, skills, hooks, MCP servers, plugins, settings, memory and more, each with a best-practice write-up and a working example, plus a big tips and tricks section sourced from the Claude team and the community.
How to use it: the README says to read it like a course, not install it like a tool. The fastest win is step 6 of its How to Use section: point Claude at the tips in your own project. In Claude Code, type:
promptRead the tips and tricks section of https://github.com/shanraisshan/claude-code-best-practice and suggest edits to my setup, especially how to restructure my CLAUDE.md. Show me each change before applying it.5. Awesome Claude Code: only the proven tools
54,962 stars on October 2, 2026. CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 license.
What it does: a hand-picked list of the best Claude Code resources, sorted into sections like Skills, Agent Orchestration, Memory and Context, Security, Status Lines, Usage and Cost, Testing and more. Use it to skip the noise when you need a tool for a specific job.
How to use it: there is nothing to install. Open the list, find the section you need, and ask Claude to check a pick for you:
promptLook at the Usage & Cost section of https://github.com/hesreallyhim/awesome-claude-code and recommend the one tool that best fits my setup. Explain what it installs before we install it.6. Claude Plugins Official: vetted plugins from the people who make Claude Code
37,321 stars on October 2, 2026. Apache 2.0 license. Made by Anthropic.
What it does: Anthropic's curated directory of Claude Code plugins. It holds internal plugins built by Anthropic and third-party plugins from partners and the community that had to meet quality and security standards to get in.
How to install a plugin from it: inside Claude Code, type the plugin name in this format:
prompt/plugin install {plugin-name}@claude-plugins-officialOr type `/plugin` and browse the Discover tab.
7. Codex Plugin for Claude Code: a second opinion built in
33,781 stars on October 2, 2026. Apache 2.0 license. Made by OpenAI.
What it does: lets you use OpenAI's Codex from inside Claude Code. `/codex:review` runs a read-only review of your changes, `/codex:adversarial-review` challenges your design choices, and `/codex:rescue` hands a task to Codex.
How to install it: you need Node.js 18.18 or later. Inside Claude Code, type:
prompt/plugin marketplace add openai/codex-plugin-cc
/plugin install codex@openai-codex
/reload-plugins
/codex:setup`/codex:setup` checks whether Codex is ready and can offer to install it. If Codex is installed but not logged in, run `!codex login`. A good first run:
prompt/codex:review --background
/codex:status
/codex:result8. Claude Code Templates: install agents, commands and settings in seconds
32,300 stars on October 2, 2026. MIT license.
What it does: a CLI and catalog of ready-to-use Claude Code agents, slash commands, MCPs, settings, hooks and skills. You can browse them at aitmpl.com and install any of them with one command.
How to install it: run this in your terminal to browse and install interactively:
bashnpx claude-code-templates@latestOr install one component directly, for example a code reviewer agent:
bashnpx claude-code-templates@latest --agent development-tools/code-reviewer --yesIt also has a live analytics dashboard for your Claude Code sessions: `npx claude-code-templates@latest --analytics`.
9. Claude DevTools: see exactly what Claude Code did and why
3,962 stars on October 2, 2026. MIT license.
What it does: a desktop app that reads the Claude Code session logs already saved on your machine and shows what the terminal hides: exact files read, inline diffs, full tool calls, subagent trees, thinking, and a per-turn breakdown of what is using your context window.
How to install it (Mac):
bashbrew install --cask claude-devtoolsThere are also downloads for macOS, Linux and Windows on the repo's Releases page, and a Docker option.
10. cc-sdd: approve the spec once, then it builds
3,699 stars on October 2, 2026. MIT license. The smallest repo on this list.
What it does: installs a spec-driven workflow as 17 Agent Skills: discovery, requirements, design, tasks and long-running autonomous implementation. When you run `/kiro-impl`, each task gets a fresh implementer using test-driven development, an independent reviewer, and an auto-debug pass if it gets stuck. It is inspired by Kiro IDE.
How to install it: run this in your project folder. The default installs Claude Code Skills with English docs:
bashcd your-project
npx cc-sdd@latestThen start in Claude Code:
prompt/kiro-discovery Photo albums with upload, tagging, and sharingQuick start
- 1Install Superpowers from the official marketplace. It is one command and changes how Claude works on every build.
- 2Add the Codex plugin if you have a ChatGPT account, and run /codex:review before you push anything important.
- 3Install Claude DevTools so you can see what Claude actually did when something goes wrong.
- 4Ask Claude to read the tips in Claude Code Best Practice and suggest fixes to your CLAUDE.md.

Common questions
Are these 10 repos free?
Yes. All 10 are free to use. The Codex plugin needs a ChatGPT account (the README says Free counts) or an OpenAI API key, and its reviews count toward your Codex usage limits. Everything else runs on your normal Claude Code plan.
Which one should I install first?
Superpowers. It installs with one command from Anthropic's official marketplace, and its skills trigger on their own, so Claude starts planning and testing before it writes code without you changing how you work.
Can I install Superpowers, Spec Kit, Agent Skills and cc-sdd together?
You can, but it is not a good idea. All four run their own plan, test and build workflow, so stacking them can cause conflicts and use up your context window. Pick one and add the non-overlapping tools (Codex plugin, Claude DevTools, Claude Code Templates) around it.
Which of these are official?
Claude Plugins Official is made by Anthropic, Spec Kit is made by GitHub, and the Codex plugin is made by OpenAI. The other seven are community projects.
