Why these 5
Claude Code gets a lot better once you add the right plugins. These five cover the gaps most people hit: reviewing pull requests, knowing which automations to set up, catching security bugs, seeing your context usage, and making Claude plan before it builds. Three are official Anthropic plugins and two are community favorites.

Before you start: what is free and what is not
All five plugins are free and open source. Claude Code itself is not free: Anthropic's pricing page lists Claude Code for Pro and Max but not the Free plan, and it also works with Team and Enterprise plans or pay as you go API credits from the Claude Console. Plugins run on the same plan, so heavier plugins use more of your usage.
Every command below is typed inside a Claude Code session. Claude Code adds Anthropic's official marketplace (claude-plugins-official) for you the first time you start an interactive session, so the three Anthropic plugins and Superpowers install with one line. Claude HUD lives in its own marketplace, so you add that first.
1. Code Review (Anthropic): parallel agents review your pull request

Launches four review agents in parallel to audit a pull request from different angles (CLAUDE.md compliance, obvious bugs, and git history). Each issue is scored 0 to 100 for confidence and only issues at 80 or above get posted, so you see fewer false alarms. Run it with /code-review on a pull request branch. It needs the GitHub CLI (gh) installed and logged in.

Warns on about 25 known dangerous code patterns as Claude edits, then reviews each finished diff and feeds high severity findings back so Claude fixes them before you see the answer. The diff review is an extra model call each turn (Opus 4.7 by default), so it uses more of your plan.

Common questions
Are these Claude Code plugins free?
The plugins are. All five are free and open source: the three Anthropic plugins are Apache 2.0, Claude HUD and Superpowers are MIT. Claude Code itself is not free: it needs a Pro, Max, Team or Enterprise plan, or pay as you go API credits. Anthropic's pricing page lists Claude Code as not included on the Free plan.
How do I install a Claude Code plugin?
Type the /plugin install command inside Claude Code. Official plugins use the claude-plugins-official marketplace, which Claude Code adds for you. Claude HUD needs /plugin marketplace add jarrodwatts/claude-hud first. The exact commands for each plugin are above.
Does Security Guidance use more of my plan?
Yes. Its diff review makes an extra model call when Claude finishes a turn (Opus 4.7 by default). Its README explains how to switch to a cheaper model if you want.
Is Superpowers made by Anthropic?
No. Superpowers is a community project by obra (Jesse Vincent) with more than 293,000 GitHub stars. It is listed in the official Claude plugin marketplace, so it installs the same way.
