Plan Your Kid's Whole Birthday Party With AI
TL;DR
A kid's party is a dozen decisions crammed into one stressful week. Give the whole thing to Claude: tell it the age, the budget, and a vibe, and it returns a theme, a party-day timeline, food and activity ideas, a shopping list, and a countdown checklist so nothing gets forgotten. Then you just tweak. Plain chat, no code.
What you'll have in 10 minutes
The entire party on one page: a theme that fits your child, a timeline for the day so you're not improvising at 2pm, age-appropriate games and activities, simple food and cake ideas, a shopping list, and a week-by-week countdown of what to do when. The kind of plan that turns party week from dread into a checklist.
No planning app, no Pinterest spiral. It happens in a normal chat with Claude, the same way you'd ask any AI a question.
What you need (all free, no terminal)
- Claude - the free Claude Desktop app or claude.ai in your browser.
- The basics: your child's age, how many kids are coming, your budget, where it'll be, and any theme they're into.
- No connectors, no command line, no code.
Step 1: Gather the basics
Have a few things ready: the age they're turning, rough headcount, budget, location (home, park, a venue), how long the party runs, and what your kid is obsessed with right now. The theme is more fun if it comes from them.
Step 2: Paste the prompt
Start a new chat and paste this with your details. It tells Claude to plan the whole thing and lay it out so it's easy to act on.
Paste this into ClaudeHelp me plan my child's birthday party. They're turning [6], it's at
[home / a park], about [12] kids are coming, it runs [2 hours], and
my budget is [$150]. They're really into [dinosaurs].
Give me: a theme built around what they love, a timeline for the
party (arrival, activities, food, cake, goodbye), 3-4 age-right games
or activities, simple food and a cake idea, a shopping list grouped
by store section, and a countdown checklist of what to do each week
leading up to the day. Keep it within my budget and flag where I can
save money. Ask me anything you need first.Step 3: Make it yours
Claude returns the full plan. Adjust it like you'd talk to a friend: "the games are too young," "we can't do peanuts," "give me a rainy-day backup," "write the invite text too." It updates the plan and the shopping list as you go. Save the final version to your phone for the day.
Common questions
Do I need to know how to code?
No. You answer a few questions in a normal chat with Claude and paste a prompt. There is no terminal, no command line, and nothing to install beyond the free Claude app or claude.ai.
Will it stay within my budget?
Put your number in the prompt and Claude plans to it, then flags where you can save. If the plan comes back over, just say so and it trims the least important costs while keeping the parts kids actually remember.
Can it suggest games for a specific age?
Yes. It tailors the activities to the age you give it, so a six-year-old's party doesn't get toddler games or tween ones. Tell it the mix of ages if there's a wide range and it adjusts.
Can it write the invitations too?
Yes - just ask. It'll draft the invite wording, a text or email version, and even a short message for the group chat. You can set the tone, from cute to simple, and tweak the details.
What if plans change, like the weather?
Ask for a backup. Claude can give you a rainy-day version, an indoor activity swap, or a shorter timeline, so you're not scrambling if something shifts on the day.
Does this cost anything?
No. You can plan the whole party on a free Claude account. The Claude Code Club community is a separate, optional $9 a month for the advanced event-planning systems, but you do not need it to plan one party.
