3 Claude Prompts That Grade Your Resume Like a Recruiter
TL;DR
Upload your resume and paste the job post into Claude. Prompt 1 gives a match score out of 100 with the evidence behind it. Prompt 2 finds the five keywords from the posting you're missing and three red flags a hiring manager would notice. Prompt 3 rewrites every bullet around real results, and asks you for the numbers instead of making them up. Then run Prompt 1 again to see the new score.
A resume that works for one job gets skipped for the next. These three prompts make Claude read your resume against one specific job post, the way a recruiter screening for that role would, and then fix it. Run them in order in the same chat.
Setup: one chat, two documents
- 1Open a new chat in Claude.
- 2Click + in the lower left of the chat box, choose Add files or photos, and attach your resume (PDF and DOCX both work). Or drag the file into the chat.
- 3Copy the full job post, including the requirements and the nice-to-haves, and paste it into the same message.
- 4Then paste Prompt 1 below it.
Prompt 1: the match score out of 100
promptYou are a senior recruiter screening candidates for the job post above. Grade my attached resume against this exact job.
Score it out of 100 using this breakdown:
- Required skills and qualifications: 40 points
- Relevant experience (level, industry, scope): 25 points
- Measurable results (numbers, outcomes): 15 points
- Matching the posting's language and job title: 10 points
- Clarity and readability (could a recruiter scan it in 10 seconds?): 10 points
For each part, give the points, then quote the line from my resume and the line from the job post that justify it.
Then give me:
1. The total score out of 100
2. The three biggest reasons the score isn't higher
3. The single change that would raise it the most
Rules: only use what is actually written in my resume. Don't assume skills I didn't list. If the job post is missing information you need, tell me instead of guessing.Prompt 2: 5 missing keywords and 3 red flags
promptNow compare my resume to the job post word by word.
PART 1: THE 5 MISSING KEYWORDS
List the five most important skills, tools or phrases from the job post that are missing from my resume or only weakly covered. For each one:
- the exact wording from the job post
- why it matters for this role (is it in the requirements or just a nice-to-have?)
- a question to ask me, so we can find out whether I really have this experience
Do not add any keyword to my resume yet. I only want to add the ones that are true.
PART 2: THE 3 RED FLAGS
List the three things a hiring manager for this role would most likely question when reading my resume. For example: an unexplained gap, a job title that doesn't match the role, short stints, vague bullets with no results, or a resume that is too long. For each red flag:
- quote the part of my resume that causes it
- explain how a hiring manager might read it
- give one honest way to fix or explain itAnswer Claude's keyword questions in the chat. Only keep the keywords you can back up with real experience.
Prompt 3: rewrite every bullet with real numbers
promptRewrite every bullet point on my resume for this job.
For each bullet:
- Start with a strong action verb.
- Say what I did, then the result.
- Use the job post's wording where it truthfully fits, including any keywords I confirmed above.
- Keep it to one or two lines.
NUMBERS RULE: never invent a number, percentage, dollar amount or team size. If a bullet has no real number yet, put a placeholder like [# of clients] or [% faster] and ask me one specific question to find the real figure (how many, how much, how often, how fast, compared to what). If I say I don't know, rewrite the bullet without a number.
Show the result as a table: Original bullet | Rewritten bullet | Question for me (if any).
At the end, list every placeholder I still need to fill in.Then re-score it
Fill in your real numbers, paste the updated resume (or ask Claude to put the full new version together), and run Prompt 1 again. The score tells you whether the changes actually closed the gap for this job.
Tips that make the prompts work better
- One job per chat. Start a fresh chat for each application so the score is about that exact post.
- Paste the whole posting. The requirements and the about-the-team section both give Claude clues.
- Remove what you don't want to share. You can take your street address and phone number off the copy you upload. The prompts don't need them.
- Read every rewrite out loud. If you couldn't say it in an interview, change it.
Now you just apply with a resume built for that exact job. Inside the Claude Code Club we share the prompts we actually use for work and help each other run them. It's nine dollars a month at https://www.skool.com/claudecodeclub/about. Everything on this page works without it.
Common questions
Do I need a paid Claude plan for these prompts?
The prompts themselves don't need one. They are plain text. If you can't attach your resume as a file, copy and paste the resume text into the chat with the job post instead.
Is the match score the same as an ATS score?
No. It is Claude's own judgment against the job post you pasted, using the breakdown in Prompt 1. Companies use different hiring software and recruiters, so treat the score as a way to find gaps, not a prediction.
What if I don't have numbers for my bullets?
Prompt 3 asks you a question for each bullet to find a real figure, like how many clients, how much time saved, or how often. If you don't know, the bullet gets rewritten without a number. Never make one up.
Should I add every missing keyword Claude finds?
Only the ones that are true. Prompt 2 asks you a question about each keyword first. Adding skills you don't have can fall apart in the interview.
Can I use this for a cover letter too?
Yes. After Prompt 3, ask Claude to write a short cover letter for the same job using only the facts and numbers you confirmed in the chat.
