10 Repos That Let Claude Code Browse the Web for You (Browser Agents, Scrapers, Browser MCPs)

10 minute readUpdated October 2026Explore more

TL;DR

Claude Code can't click around a website on its own. These 10 free GitHub repos give it a browser. Browser Use, Stagehand and Agent Browser let an agent click, type and fill forms for you. Chrome DevTools MCP, Playwright MCP, Chrome MCP Server and Dev Browser plug a real Chrome straight into Claude Code. Crawl4AI and Scrapling turn websites into clean text Claude Code can read, and Cua goes further by giving agents a whole desktop. Each section has the GitHub link, live star count and the install steps from the repo's own README.

The 10 repos that let Claude Code browse the web for you

Star counts below were pulled from GitHub on October 2, 2026, so they will be higher by the time you read this. The list covers four jobs: browser agents that click and type for you, browser connections for Claude Code (MCP servers and CLIs), turning websites into clean text and controlling a whole computer. You don't need all 10. If you just want Claude Code to open a page and check it, start with Playwright MCP or Chrome DevTools MCP.

1. Browser Use: hand Claude Code a website task and watch it do it

browser-use/browser-use

117,008 stars on October 2, 2026. MIT license.

What it does: an open-source browser agent. You give it a task in plain English and it opens a browser, clicks, types and reports back. The README's demo books a driving test: it finds a free slot, picks a date and time and handles the CAPTCHA.

How to install it: the README gives a ready-made prompt for Claude Code. Paste it in as is:

promptInstall or upgrade browser-use to the latest stable version with uv using Python 3.12, run `browser-use skill install` to register the skill, and connect it to my browser. If setup or connection fails, follow https://github.com/browser-use/browser-harness/blob/main/install.md.

If you'd rather run the agent from your own Python code, the README's library route starts with:

bashuv add browser-use

2. Scrapling: scrapers that keep working after a site redesign

D4Vinci/Scrapling

85,236 stars on October 2, 2026. BSD 3-Clause license.

What it does: an adaptive web scraping framework. Turn on its `adaptive` mode and it can find the same elements again after a website changes its layout. It also ships an MCP server so Claude can scrape through it, and it strips prompt-injection content from pages before the AI sees them.

How to install it: you need Python 3.10 or higher. This installs the MCP server feature, then downloads the browsers it uses:

bashpip install "scrapling[ai]"
scrapling install

The README links to its MCP server docs at scrapling.readthedocs.io for connecting it to Claude.

3. Crawl4AI: turn any website into clean text Claude Code can read

unclecode/crawl4ai

84,652 stars on October 2, 2026. Apache 2.0 license.

What it does: crawls websites and turns them into clean, LLM-ready Markdown, with headings, tables and code kept and menus and footers filtered out. Good for feeding whole docs sites to Claude without the messy HTML.

How to install it (free, runs on your machine):

bashpip install -U crawl4ai
crawl4ai-setup # installs and sets up the browser
crawl4ai-doctor     # checks the installation

Then grab any page as Markdown from the terminal with the `crwl` command:

bashcrwl https://news.ycombinator.com -o markdown

4. Chrome DevTools MCP: Claude Code debugs pages like a developer

ChromeDevTools/chrome-devtools-mcp

52,891 stars on October 2, 2026. Apache 2.0 license. From the Chrome DevTools team.

What it does: an MCP server that lets Claude control and inspect a live Chrome browser with the full power of Chrome DevTools. It can record performance traces, check network requests and console errors, and take screenshots.

How to install it: you need Node.js and Chrome. Add this to your MCP client config:

json{
  "mcpServers": {
    "chrome-devtools": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": ["-y", "chrome-devtools-mcp@latest"]
    }
  }
}

The README links to a Client Configurations Guide with the exact steps for Claude Code. Then test it with the README's first prompt:

promptCheck the performance of https://developers.chrome.com

5. Agent Browser: a fast browser CLI made for AI agents

vercel-labs/agent-browser

43,459 stars on October 2, 2026. Apache 2.0 license. From Vercel Labs.

What it does: a native Rust command-line tool that agents use to open pages, read them, click, fill forms and take screenshots, all from the terminal. Short commands keep Claude Code's context small.

How to install it:

bashnpm install -g agent-browser
agent-browser install # Download Chrome from Chrome for Testing (first time only)

Then add the skill so Claude Code knows how to use it:

bashnpx skills add vercel-labs/agent-browser

On a Mac you can also use `brew install agent-browser` instead of npm.

6. Playwright MCP: Microsoft's official browser control for Claude Code

microsoft/playwright-mcp

37,766 stars on October 2, 2026. Apache 2.0 license. Made by Microsoft.

What it does: an MCP server that lets Claude drive a real browser using Playwright. It reads pages through the accessibility tree instead of screenshots, so it doesn't need a vision model.

How to install it: you need Node.js 18 or newer. One command adds it to Claude Code:

bashclaude mcp add playwright npx @playwright/mcp@latest

7. Cua: agents that run a whole desktop, not just a browser tab

trycua/cua

27,818 stars on October 2, 2026. MIT license (the Cua Spaces app is source-available under FSL-1.1-MIT).

What it does: gives AI agents full computers to use. Cua Driver lets an agent inspect and operate desktop apps and browsers on macOS, Windows and Linux, and Cua Spaces gives agents their own desktops (local macOS VMs or Linux images) on your Mac.

How to install Cua Driver (macOS or Linux):

bash/bin/bash -c "$(curl -fsSL https://cua.ai/driver/install.sh)"

The README links to a "connect your agent" guide for Claude Code. If you want the full setup (the `cua` CLI, the Spaces app and the cua-driver MCP), the README's installer is below. It signs you in and offers to install the cua skills and MCP server into Claude Code:

bashcurl -fsSL https://cua.ai/install.sh | sh

8. Stagehand: tell it what to do in plain English

browserbase/stagehand

25,518 stars on October 2, 2026. MIT license. From Browserbase.

What it does: an SDK for browser agents with three plain-English commands: `act` ("click the sign in button"), `observe` (find an element) and `extract` (pull structured data off a page). The README says `act` self-heals when a site redesigns its form.

How to install it (TypeScript):

bashpnpm add @browserbasehq/stagehand 'zod@~4.4.3'

Or for Python, `pip install stagehand`. Local runs need Chrome installed. Then ask Claude Code to write the script for you:

promptUse Stagehand to open https://example.com, extract the page title and every link, and print them as JSON. Use a local browser.

9. Chrome MCP Server: Claude Code drives the Chrome you already use

hangwin/mcp-chrome

12,458 stars on October 2, 2026. MIT license.

What it does: a Chrome extension plus a local MCP server that lets Claude control your everyday Chrome, with your settings and logins already in place. It has 20+ tools, including screenshots, network monitoring, bookmarks and browsing history.

How to install it: you need Node.js 20 or newer. First download the latest extension from the repo's Releases page, then install the bridge:

bashnpm install -g mcp-chrome-bridge

In Chrome, go to chrome://extensions/, turn on Developer mode, click "Load unpacked" and pick the downloaded extension folder. Click the extension icon and hit connect. Then add this to your MCP client config:

json{
  "mcpServers": {
    "chrome-mcp-server": {
      "type": "streamableHttp",
      "url": "http://127.0.0.1:12306/mcp"
    }
  }
}

10. Dev Browser: the lightest way to give Claude Code eyes on the web

SawyerHood/dev-browser

6,644 stars on October 2, 2026. MIT license. The smallest repo on this list, from Sawyer Hood.

What it does: lets coding agents control Chrome with short JavaScript scripts. The browser stays open between calls, so Claude can open a page once, look, act and check the result without starting over.

How to install it:

bashnpm install -g dev-browser
dev-browser install-skill --claude  # ~/.claude/skills/dev-browser/SKILL.md

Or add it as an MCP server instead:

bashclaude mcp add dev-browser -- dev-browser mcp --headless

Quick start

  1. 1Run claude mcp add playwright npx @playwright/mcp@latest and ask Claude Code to open a page and tell you what's on it.
  2. 2Need to debug a slow or broken page? Add Chrome DevTools MCP and ask it to check the page's performance.
  3. 3Want whole sites as clean text for Claude? Install Crawl4AI and run crwl on a URL with -o markdown.
  4. 4Only move to agents that use your real logins or desktop (Chrome MCP Server, Cua) once you're comfortable watching what Claude does.

Common questions

  • Are these 10 repos free?

    Yes, all 10 are free and open source to run yourself. Some have optional paid extras: Browser Use and Crawl4AI sell hosted cloud versions, Stagehand can run on Browserbase's paid cloud browsers, and Browser Use's Python library and Stagehand need a model API key that bills per use.

  • Which one should I install first?

    Playwright MCP. It is made by Microsoft, installs into Claude Code with one command, and lets Claude open and read pages without any API key.

  • Is it safe to let Claude Code control my browser?

    Be careful. Tools that use your real Chrome, like Chrome MCP Server, can act on any account you're logged in to. Start with a separate browser profile or a headless browser, watch what Claude does, and never let it near banking or payment pages.

  • What is the difference between a browser MCP and a scraper?

    A browser MCP (Playwright MCP, Chrome DevTools MCP) lets Claude click, type and inspect pages live. A scraper (Crawl4AI, Scrapling) pulls a page's content out as clean text so Claude can read it. Use a scraper when you just need the information.
